Landscape : nice
Global mark : good |
Comment : The starting point of the hike is difficult to find because the map in the guide is not well done. The problem ? The village where the walk starts is Comps and Comps is not on the map. Our advice : coming from Beaucaire by the D986L, take the first road on your left, just after the sign which marks the entry to Comps. The street is called Chemin de Saint Roman. You follow the sign Lotissement Saint Roman, Chambre d’hôtes Les Arcades. Drive straight ahead about one minute and park on the car park just before the aqueduct.
The first part of the hike until the abbey of Saint-Roman is rather classic. Nothing exceptional. As far as concerns the visit to the abbey, we can not tell you if it was nice, because it was closed. Get the information about the opening hours before going. Access with charge : 5 € for an adult and 2 € for a child, in February 2005.
Attention : arrived at point 5, you can go on straight ahead or turn to the right, to the top of the Massif de l’Aiguille. Do not hesitate ! Choose the alternative track and after only 400 meters you will be on the top. You arrive at a cave dwelling from where you have a beautiful view on the surroundings. If you are lucky, some goats will beg for you picnic. Go then back to point 5 and walk further to the staring point. Perfect markings.
