Comment : This hike is the opportunity to see the old ochre quarries of the Lubéron. It is the kind of landscape you rarely see. It is splendid... Sometimes it looks like a Disney setting, the illusion of being in the Colorado is real ! The signs are rather correct. At the car park of the campsite which leads to the quarries, at 1 or 2 km from the start, you should make a detour to the “Cheminées des fées”. The guidebook hardly indicates it at the end of the hike, while it is the point you must see (by the way, the most popular place, there is a lot of people at this place). Cross the car park and follow the signs to the “Cheminées des fées”, then come back to the car park. Bring some empty little pots, because this small detour is the opportunity to collect sand of different colours (from white to a large range of reds)... At home you can make nice bottles filled with the sand. The other part of the hike consists in views on the quarries from the woods or from tracks suitable for vehicles. Pay attention to the weather : the temperature in the woods is different from the fields. Take a jacket. It might also be windy !! Very exotic. (In the same style, there is Roussillon, but there is nothing about it in the guidebook !)
